The educational team at the Museu do Futebol, an associate institution of Aberje, is scheduled for a different mission: the group is available to talk to the elderly by phone or video call, helping them to combat the loneliness and boredom imposed by the coronavirus pandemic. The initiative is part of the #culturaemcasa (or cultureathome) campaign, of the Secretary of Culture and Creative Economy of the State of São Paulo, to which the Museum belongs.
Conversations of the Revivendo Memórias #EmCasa (Reliving memories #athome) project take place from Tuesday to Friday at two times. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, individual calls are placed; on Wednesdays and Fridays, nursing homes and social entities that serve other fragile groups, such as people with disabilities and vulnerable people, are served. Educators seek to work on the participants’ affective memories based on football and other subjects such as music, soap operas, and films.
The idea arose from the experience that the Museum already has to assist people with Alzheimer’s disease, carried out in partnership with Hospital das Clínicas. With the emergence of the coronavirus and the need for social distancing, the institution decided to open the initiative to a broader audience, exchanging face-to-face visits for distance conversations.
The Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of the State of São Paulo, to which the Football Museum belongs, launched the #culturaemcasa campaign to provide online activities from all its cultural facilities during the pandemic. Museums, libraries, theaters, and cultural centers are temporarily closed as part of the fight against the disease. The Football Museum has 14 virtual exhibitions available on the Google Art & Culture platform, the online database of the Brazilian Football Reference Center (CRFB). It will continue with new initiatives on social networks.
