New strategy for mining communication
Ana Paula Dondon
Paulo Henrique Soares took his 21 years’ experience in Communication at mining giant Vale to Ibram, Instituto Brasileiro de Mineração (Brazilian Institute for Mining) where he is the new Director of Communication. Facing the challenges imposed by the broken dam tragedy that happened in Mariana (Minas Gerais, Brazil) and its impact in mining image, Paulo says “we need to work on finding new meanings for mining. In order to do so, we created a communication committee where Brazilian mining companies can share knowledge and design a new strategic communication plan. The first step in that direction was the sponsorship of PUA (University Award by Aberje)”, says Soares. “The relationship that binds Brazil and mining together is very special. Mining has always played an important role in economic and cultural development”, he adds.
