Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, will host the 13th edition of the World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) from November 15 to 21, 2026. The event is one of the leading global gatherings in public relations and strategic communication. It will also mark the 25th anniversary of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management, the worldwide confederation of major communication associations. Aberje is a member of the Global Alliance’s board of directors.

Under the theme “Responsible Communication: The Voice of the World,” the forum will explore the role of communication professionals in a context shaped by rapid technological change, increasing social polarization, and growing challenges related to trust. The event is organized by the Global Alliance in partnership with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the regulatory body for the profession in the country. The program will also include the awards ceremony for the World Public Relations and Communication Awards 2025.

Nigeria’s selection as host reflects the increasing relevance of the African continent in the global economic and cultural landscape. As one of the region’s key development hubs, the country is expected to welcome more than 3,000 participants from approximately 126 countries. Abuja, designed as an administrative and political center, offers the infrastructure required to host large-scale international events.

Over recent decades, communication has evolved from a primarily media relations function into a strategic discipline that mediates the relationship between organizations and society, particularly in environments marked by information fragmentation.

Pillars of Responsible Communication and SDG 18

The WPRF 2026 agenda is structured around five thematic pillars. The first, Trust and Ethics, focuses on transparency and credibility as responses to misinformation. Inclusion and Diversity addresses the need to amplify voices and strengthen representation in communication processes.

The third pillar, Sustainability and Development, connects communication practices with social and environmental impact agendas. In this context, the Global Alliance continues to advocate for the recognition of “Responsible Communication” as the 18th United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG).

The remaining pillars cover Technology and Innovation, emphasizing ethical challenges related to artificial intelligence, and Global Collaboration, positioning communication as a key enabler of institutional alignment at an international level.

Young talent and parallel programming

The program includes initiatives aimed at developing and engaging emerging professionals. The Global Youth PR Summit and the WPRF 2026 Youth Hackathon will bring together students and young professionals to work on innovative solutions at the intersection of communication, technology, and social impact.

Highlights also include Africa Day, organized by the African Public Relations Association (APRA), focused on cultural appreciation and economic cooperation across the continent. The agenda will feature discussions with government representatives on issues related to peace and security in Africa. Networking opportunities will include social and sports activities designed to foster interaction among participants.
